Swiss company Nordur is currently assessing feasibility and means by which to produce hydrogen and methane at Hellisheiði Geothermal Power Plant, some 25 km outside Reykjavík. Its intent is to utilize electricity from the Orka náttúrunnar power plant to produce hydrogen via electrolysis and carbon dioxide, in the second step of the process, to produce synthetic gas methane.
