Action Plan for Energy Transition in Icelandic Ports Presented January 24<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

Icelandic New Energy and\u00a0Hafi\u00f0 Center of Excellence<\/a>\u00a0presenting their recently completed action plan for energy transition in Icelandic ports at the Ministry for Tourism, Industry and Innovation on January 24, 2019. The report was commissioned by the Minister of Tourism, Industry and Innovation as part of the government’s overarching Strategy for Energy Transition, adopted by the Icelandic Parliament in 2017. The main points of action include:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Ensure that all ports offer adequate and functional low voltage connections for smaller vessels, with power requirements up to 500 kW<\/li>\n
  2. Supply frequency converters at ports in order to service vessels operating on 60 Hz<\/li>\n
  3. Supply high voltage shore power connections at select ports to service vessels requiring 1-5 MW, such as freezer trawlers, cargo vessels, small passenger ships<\/li>\n
  4. Supply high voltage shore power connections\u00a0 at select ports to service vessels requiring over 5 MW at berth<\/li>\n
  5. Increase supply of hot water for heating for vessels at berth, where geothermal district heating is available<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    In addition to the key actions, the report suggests the implementation of 11 different supportive measures and several government initiatives for the\u00a0 construction of onshore power infrastructure and the implementation of green, environmentally sound technology and fuels aboard vessels owned and\/or operated by the state.<\/p>\n
